This is a NO brain-ER. Over a decade ago my (health-crazed) husband went around the house throwing away all of our deodorants and antiperspirants…and, I had LOTS of them. I am a sweaty-girl. No denying it. I used to be so jealous of the girls in my dance classes/athletic games that literally just got red-in-the-face. Well, until I knew better.
But, back to my husband; this is the kind of behavior that would lead us into a verbal fighting match (me yelling, him just looking at me defiantly). How dare he throw away my last bit of humanity/proper hygiene/self-respect? Well, of course, I reacted slightly more than I should have. The point is, he found multiple research articles correlating cancer to the petrochemicals found in these products (which you apply straight to the lovely underbelly of the skin…close to the lymph system.)
Now this is common knowledge, right? The likes of Beauty Counter, Jessica Alba and multiple “healthy” network marketing companies are providing alternative options. In the past 5 years you can even find Tom’s natural deodorant in your local Target. But, alas, most of us have had THAT experience. They just don’t work. Not really.
Here is the truth. They DON’T work like antiperspirants. They can’t keep you from sweating…nor, can they keep you from stinking for 24 hours. That’s the thing about some alternative choices. You have to shift your thinking, your habits, and simply accept it.
Now, with that said; you can find the best products for you.
After years of trying natural deodorants (I just cleaned out 10 different kinds in my bathrooms!); I have found the perfect option (for me.) This may or may not work for you. But, I’m betting you are willing to give it a try.
I LOVE the PiperWai brand – it contains charcoal (might actually pull toxins from your skin?) And, my tried and true – Premier Research Lab’s Ozene. Ozene (not specifically for underarms) is what my husband switched to years ago. It smells like ozone. It’s not a bad smell…but it isn’t a lovely smell either. When I first tried the PiperWai (thanks for the tip, Erica!) I really liked it, but I started to wonder if it would last longer when combined with the Ozene. It DOES! I love the combo.
If you are still on-the-fence about switching to a natural deodorant, please reconsider. Google the heck-out-of-it. Trust me. It’s not worth the price. If anything, take a washcloth to work and do the old fashioned “sponge bath” over your lunch hour. Happy sweating!
