Many of you know my LOVE of the sun, as well as the benefits we get from Vitamin D. Since my family lives pretty far north, we REALLY get excited for summer and the feel-good vibes we get during those long hours of daylight.
Out of the (4) of us, my daughter and I rarely burn (but get dark very fast) and the boys are more fair -they will burn without a base, and will definitely redden if they are boating all-day.
Regardless of my family’s beliefs about how long you should go without sunscreen or how often; it is clear, that we all need protection at some point. As we head into the week of the 4th, I know we will be in & out of the water and wanted to remind everyone to wear a good hat and/or sunscreen that is safe. Here is a list of sunscreens that rate favorably on the EWG’s (Environmental Working Group) 2017 review: click here.
Beauty Counter’s sunscreens rate at a 1; as well as Badger (a favorite of mine, but is very white.)
Out of the Beauty Counter sunscreens my favorite is the Protect Stick Sunscreen (Face). It is small so you can carry it in your bag or purse; and is made with non-nano zinc oxide, a water-resistant sunscreen that protects against UVA/UVB rays. It nourishes the skin with organic coconut and acai fruit oils, and it blends seamlessly without leaving white streaks. I really am annoyed with white streaks.
I personally like their “tube” of Protect All Over Sunscreen, but I have found that some people are sensitive to this – my guess is it’s most-likely the aloe. But, for my family, it works great. We keep these all over – in the boat, in our soccer bags and in the car.
Have a safe and enjoyable summer!
